Moving from Sick Care to Proactive Health Care
Vickie Rice, Vice President of Innovative Strategies, CareATC
Vickie Rice describes health care as one of the most important things a society does. She is passionate about using data and technology to prevent illness and help patients live their healthiest lives. She is pivotal in helping CareATC in its mission to change the way health care is delivered in America, most notably changing our sick care system to a health care system.
“Did you know that 30 percent of Americans are pre-hypertensive? Or that 84 million adults are pre-diabetic?” Vickie asked the audience during her presentation at The Believe in Better Project. “How many diagnosis codes are dedicated to those conditions? None.”
Over 75 percent of the $3.5 trillion annual health care spend in the U.S. is used to treat chronic health conditions, according to the CDC. Meanwhile, Vickie says, only 1 percent of those dollars are spent on preventive health.
